Why Do Apps Stay In Dock Mac

I've offered a bunch of power tips to customize the contents of your OS X Dock: Adding spaces between applications, for example, or adding recently-added apps and documents. If you went overboard, however, and your Dock is now far too disorderly for your tastes, here's how to reset it.

Jul 13, 2020 One last method for changing the visibility setting of the Dock is to use your mouse or trackpad to access a secret menu in the Dock itself. Move the cursor to the Dock separator, that small vertical line that sits between the Dock apps and any folders or documents you installed in the Dock. Oct 24, 2017  Stop apps opening on startup on Mac. Checking to see what apps are starting automatically is a breeze. Select the Apple menu and System Preferences. Select Users & Groups and then the Login Items tab in the top center. The list of enabled apps will appear in the center pane. Dec 29, 2018  I start up an app. I then go to the dock, right-click on the app and chose 'quit'. The app icon stays on the dock. Then I right-click on the app again, and then choose 'options' and then choose 'remove from dock'. The the icon disappears. Why does the icon does not disappear when I 'quit' the app? For some apps this happens, for others it does not.

Even if you haven't heavily customized your Dock using Terminal commands, this week's power tip can come in handy. Because this won't just get rid of Terminal customizations. It'll reset your Dock to its default settings, just like when you first took your Mac out of the box. Default apps will be restored to their standard locations, and preferences like magnification, hiding, and so on, will be reset.

Everything will be reset.

How to reset your Dock to its default

  1. Open Terminal (located in the Utilities folder).
  2. Type (or copy and paste) defaults delete com.apple.dock; killall Dock
  3. Hit return.

Your Dock will now be new as the day it shipped. Customize again with care.

Discord and others are down worldwide due to issues with Cloudfare

Discord appears to be down worldwide due to some kind of outage. The team at Discord has acknowledged the issue, and promises that a fix is on the way.

Why

I never understood this behaviour. I start up an app. What makes a certain app so special that it does not disappear when 'quit' the app and needs me to 'remove from dock'. I want that all app icons disappear from the dock when I quit the app. I never understood this.
